The Fall of an Empire by ryolo132 The Fall of an Empire by ryolo132
I made this piece back in 2013 before I first went to the BUCK Convention, but I never uploaded it.
I think it's more fitting now as BUCK announces 2016 as the last year of their con.

Before I went to BUCK, I was in a pretty bad place.
School was a nightmare, I was bullied to the point of people pulling knives on me, attempting to ambush me on my way home... I felt horribly alone.
So when I got on a train on my own and feebly walked down to the Convention centre, I was terrified. I didn't know what to expect, and suddenly there I was able to be happy.
Never in my life had I met anyone as friendly as the people I met those two days. People at that convention that I hadn't known for thirty seconds treated me better than people I had considered friends for years.
I felt more than just with my peers, I felt at home. I felt good for the first time in a long time.

So to hear that this year will be the last year of BUCK is a little disheartening...
I think rather than dwell on the sadness of that though, I'm going to look at what BUCK really did for me.
It helped me with my social anxiety to meet such great people, and I have some great friends now because of it.
I have more friends that I plan to meet for the first time this year when I go and I can't wait to make it the best Con experience possible.
Here's to the crew that have made BUCK possible, here's to the friends I've made and everyone who smiled, was kind to me and made me feel happy just by being awesome people at that event.

Oh dear...I'm sorry you went through all that... :c *offers hugs*
But it is nice that you were able to have a good time and make new friends at BUCK. Everyone deserves kindness and friendship, especially after such harrowing and isolating experiences. My experience at my first and only Bronycon was quite the contrary...of course, I went more out of obligation to a friend than because I wanted to go, and ended up being very lonely and suicidal (and my social anxiety didn't play well with the crowds of people either...nor did anyone reach out to me really).
Anyway...I hope you had a great time at this year's BUCK and were able to make the most of it. It is saddening that it's the last one; I think this year is the last Ponycon AU as well, but I suppose that gives it a certain bitter-sweetness. I'm glad you're able to reflect on it positively though.

As for the picture itself, I very much like it. It tells quite a story without words (in fact, I might even have to put a note in my story ideas list about this picture in case I come up with something for it later >w<), and I like the symbolism of the setting sun there :3.

And yes, DeathPwny's render is how I found my way here >.<
